Biodiversity
Most of the plants are coniferous trees and deciduous trees throughout the region supplying much food and homes for the animals around it. Our country has a low biodiversity level because our climate and vegetation stays mostly the same making it harder for the animals to become diverse as not many threats occur. Some of our most common animals include cougars in our mountain, varieties of birds, squirrels, and bears. Sadly, many people use livestock strategies in the mountains and they then kill the cougars because they are living in there land. Because of this the cougar is now an endangered species. Now, the law has changed in order to protect the cougar. But, luckily for the cougar it rarely goes famished because of the abundant amounts of squirrels and rabbits in the area. The people do use our forest for fuel and other resources but its not much of a threat as its scattered throughout the island. Another biodiversity problem is our salmon fish is dying because of polluted water. Although not a problem yet, we fear that the Grizzly Bears may be threatened too because this is there main food choice. To deal with this, we are advising many on news programs and through laws the pick up trash and other pollutants. Overall, our biodiversity is lower than many because not many threats to the species have occurred.
